Salt Spring was recently rated as one of the top ten artistic communities in Canada - one of the top 110 in the whole of Canada and the US.

Over the last few years, the island has been like a magnet, drawing and developing an artistic community far larger and stronger than its size might indicate.

Today Salt Spring is probably Canada's most famous artistic community, home to Robert Bateman, Carol Evans and many others.

Be sure to follow the self-guided Gallery Walk around the town of Ganges. You'll visit many excellent local galleries.

And take the complementary Studio Tour - a not-to-be-missed visit to 31 resident properties of artists who showcase their work in their own home studios.

ArtCraft
A treasure trove of local works, ArtCraft is open from mid-May to mid-September.

Over 200 artists showcase (and sell) art of every variety - pottery, jewellry, painting, glasswork, weaving, woodwork and metalwork and more.

ArtSpring
ArtSpring is a very special Salt Spring performing arts venue.

The Island Arts Centre Society was formed in 1989 and given the mandate to raise funds and to design, build and operate a new centre for the arts. Robert Bateman officially opened ArtSpring in April 1999.

The Saturday Market
Located in the Park in Ganges, our Saturday Market is famous for displaying local art, crafts and garden products. The "Market in the Park" takes place every Saturday from April to October, 8:00 am to 4pm - rain or shine in Centennial Park, in the center of Ganges. There is something for everyone. Some of the artists who are part of Salt Spring's fame will be there. You'll find local food, both fresh and prepared. Local gourmet cheeses are a special treat. A 'must-do'.
